Hamilton Khaki Field expedition
The new Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition is designed to provide a fresh take on the entry-level mechanical Swiss watch segment while embracing its adventurous spirit. Hamilton has introduced several enhancements to both the dial and case, albeit at an additional cost. Nevertheless, the Khaki Field Expedition makes a compelling case for becoming your new everyday watch.
With the Khaki Field Expedition, Hamilton builds upon its well-established Khaki Field line by introducing some new elements and adjustments to create a sturdier field watch. The case, entirely brushed in stainless steel, is now available in two sizes: 37mm (44mm lug-to-lug) or 41mm (48mm lug-to-lug). Notably, the often-criticized long lugs of the Khaki Field Mechanical have been eliminated, resulting in a more compact and wearable case. As someone with relatively small wrists (6.25mm), I found the smaller size preferable, although the 41mm version remained manageable.
The Khaki Field Expedition is offered in four variants: a black dial with options for a strap or bracelet, as well as white and blue dial versions on a strap. In contrast to existing Khaki Field models, the dial is minimalist, featuring only hour markers and an outer seconds track (with SuperLumiNova at the hour markers), accompanied by two lines of text. It's a clean and legible design, although the font might appear slightly squat. Unfortunately, there is no luminescence on the numerals, but the SuperLumiNova on the hands is robust and practical.
The new Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition is available in two case sizes (37mm or 41mm) with stainless steel construction and a bi-directional rotating compass bezel. It features a screw-down crown for 100 meters of water resistance and runs on the automatic H-10 caliber (based on ETA) with an 80-hour power reserve and Nivachron hairspring. The watch boasts a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, comes in black, blue, or white dial options, and offers SuperLuminova on the hands. It can be paired with either a leather strap with a pin buckle or a stainless steel bracelet with a double-trigger folding clasp.
